چکیده

We report preliminary results based on new nearinfrared observations of the central stellar cluster of our Galaxy conducted with the infrared spectrometer ISAAC at the ESO VLT UT1 and the MPE speckle camera SHARP at the ESO NTT. We obtained λ/∆λ≥ 3000 K-band spectroscopy of the 2.058 μm He I, 2.165 μm Brγ emission lines, and 2.29 μm CO bandhead absorption line. These data demonstrate clearly that there is no strong CO bandhead absorption originating in the northern part (S1/S2 area) of the central stellar cluster at the position of Sgr A∗. This makes it likely that these K∼14.5 stars are O9 – B0.5 stars with masses of 15 to 20 M . Weaker CO bandhead absorption in the southern part of the cluster (S10/S11 area) could be due to contributions from neighbouring stars. We also report the detection of Brγ line emission at the position of the central stellar cluster which could be associated with the ‘mini-spiral’ rather than with the Sgr A∗ cluster itself. At the NTT we obtained another epoch epoch of proper motion measurments. The changes of source positions are consistent with the proper motion velocities derived from earlier epochs.

The Nuclear Stellar Cluster in the Seyfert 1 Galaxy NGC 3227 : High Angular Resolution NIR Imaging and Spectroscopy

Near-Infrared high angular resolution speckle imaging and imaging spectroscopy of the nuclear region (∼ 10 " ≈ 840 pc) of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 3227 are presented. The images reveal an unresolved nuclear source in the K band in addition to a nuclear stellar cluster which is slightly resolved in the J and H band. The contribution of this stellar cluster to the NIR continuum is increasing from...

The structure of the nuclear stellar cluster of the Milky Way

Aims. The centre of the Milky Way is the nearest nucleus of a galaxy and offers a unique possibility to study the structure and dynamics of a dense stellar cluster around a super-massive black hole. Methods. We present high-resolution seeing limited and AO NIR imaging observations of the stellar cluster within about one parsec of Sgr A*, the massive black hole at the centre of the Milky Way. St...

Massive Stars in the Sgr 1806−20 Cluster

We report the discovery of additional hot and massive stars in the cluster surrounding the soft gamma repeater SGR 1806−20, based upon UKIRT and Keck near-infrared spectroscopy. Of the newly identified stars, three are Wolf-Rayet stars of types WC8, WN6, and WN7, and a fourth star is an OB supergiant. These three stars, along with four previously discovered, imply a cluster age of∼3.04.5 Myr, b...

The possibility of detecting Sagittarius A * at 8 . 6 μ m Sensitive , high - resolution imaging observations of the Galactic Center

Context. Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*) at the center of the Milky Way is a black hole accreting at extremely sub-Eddington rates. Measurements of its emission in the infrared and X-ray domains are difficult due to its faintness and high variability. Aims. The Galactic Center was observed at 8.6 μm in order to detect a mid-infrared (MIR) counterpart of Sgr A*, parallel to NIR observations. The goal wa...
